Peter Henry Enns

December 8, 1933 - March 3, 2022

Tribute

Peter Enns was born on December 8, 1933, in Beechy, Saskatchewan and spent a happy childhood growing up on the prairie farm. His family moved to Abbotsford in 1944 where Peter spent most of his life. Peter graduated from Phillip Sheffield High School in 1952 and MEI in 1953. He later completed a B.A. at UBC and an M. Ed. at Western Washington University.
Peter’s goal had always been to be a teacher and he entered this profession in 1954. For the next 36 years he was a teacher/principal in the District of Mission engaged in a job which he loved. Retirement in 1990 brought other opportunities to utilize his skills as an administrator mostly on an interim basis. He served as interim director of Stillwood Camp and Conference Center, interim director of the International Baccalaureate program at Abby Senior Secondary, interim president of Lithuania Christian College in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and interim dean at Acts Seminaries. Peter also served an additional two years as a college instructor at what is now LCC International University.
Retirement brought more opportunities to pursue his passion for sports, particularly tennis and golf and time to be involved in the lives of his seven grandchildren. Family camping and skiing remained an important activity until the children were grown.
Peter believed that every family needed an anchor and one of those anchors was the church. He was a charter member of Bakerview Church where he served in a variety of capacities. He also served as the secretary of the B.C. and Canadian Conferences for several years.
He was positive in his comments to his family and friends and always displayed his trust and confidence in the Lord he served. We remember Pete with thankfulness to God for a life well lived.

Relation: Colleague and friend

I am sad to see the obituary in the Abbotsford News. Peter, the consummate gentleman, stepped into the role of IB Coordinator and teacher at Abby Senior when I had a leave to go to Rwanda. I believe I met Peter through Eric Ratzlaff, another giant of a decent man.
Over the years at dinners at the Ratzlaffs, Peter and Joan, Daisy Martens and others, had wonderful conversations and shared food and talked about world events.
To the family: I am sorry for your loss. Peter lived a rich and fulfilled life but you must miss him enormously. My condolences.

From: Linda Kerr
Relation: I was his student, and he was my mentor.

Peter was my teacher at Mission Senior Secondary. He also sponsored the Annual (Yearbook), for which I was editor a number of times. After the Class of ’64 graduated, he came to our many reunions and always had a story or two about students he remembered fondly — as we did, him.
The world was a better place for his teaching and his presence in our lives, and we will miss him.

“Mr. Enns” was my Socials 11 and History 12 teacher when I was in Grade 12 at Mission Secondary School in 1963 and 1964. “Mr. Enns” class was one of my favorites and I admired him greatly for his smile, knowledge, caring and sense of humor. I believe that he was instrumental in my decision to become a teacher and, you guessed it, teach Social Studies. I wanted you to know that he touched my life and I know that he touched the lives of many others. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Joan and family, I am so sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. Your grief must be palpable. Praise God for so many years of fond and loving memories. You both have held a warm place in my heart for many years. Never forgotten your love and kindness toward me. You remain in my prayers till we all meet again very soon, in glory. Much love, Janis Taylor, now Fowler.
