With his loving wife at his side, Peter G. Harms passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on December 13 at 10:15 pm at the age of 91.

He will forever be loved and fondly remembered by his loving wife, Susie, children: Joyce (Peter) Kehler, Peter (JoAnne) Harms, Elfrieda (Richard) Peters, 11 wonderful grandchildren, and 10 even more wonderful great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 6 siblings, 7 sisters-in-law,1 brother-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces and many friends. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

He was born in Osterwick, Ukraine on May 21, 1923 and fled with his family to Canada when he was 2 months old.  He grew up in Manitoba with his 10 siblings, and  became a farmer.  He married Susie Peters on October 11,1953, and in 1968, they moved to BC where he became the minister of West Abbotsford Mennonite Church.   He also worked as a carpenter, then was called to be a minister in the Clearbrook Mennonite church for a few years, and continued as a lay minister there till his early 80's.

He leaves a legacy of cherished memories.  He had integrity, wisdom, humility, and an intense desire to work.,

His children always said that their dad lived the sermons he preached.  We will forever think of him as a man who walked with God.   We will strive to follow his Christian example.

The viewing will be held at the Clearbrook Church at the corner of Church St. and Peardonville Rd. at 8:30 on Dec 19, 2014.

This will be followed by the burial at Maclure Mennonite Cemetery.

Dear Joyce, I am so saddened to learn of the earthly loss of your Dad. I was blessed and uplifted to read about his love for, and friendship with the Lord. Oh what a celebration there was on the day of his homecoming! I imagine there were party hats and noise makers … Love and blessings to you and your family Joyce.

Condolence
Peter Harms

Dear Aunt Susie and Family.

We extend our deepest sympathies on the passing of your husband and our uncle, Uncle Pete. We always enjoyed Uncle Pete, his sensitivity and his keen interest in our lives. His laughter, his humor and his play on words made for entertaining and intellectual conversation. Then there were his stirring thoughts and his awarenesses of life’s realities that he shared freely. Uncle Pete was an all round handyman. In particular, we remember the huge swing he built for everyone on his farmyard that took us high into the sky and made us think we were close to Heaven. Thank you Uncle Pete for being part of our lives, for being such a thoughtful and generous uncle and a wonderful role model.
Pete & Mary Hildebrand Family.
