Tribute

Long time resident of Langley, Peter Hooge passed away October 21, 2012 at Langley Memorial Hospital, with family/loved ones and Pastor Philip Wheaton at his bed side. Born in Nikopol, Ukraine February 23, 1921 to parents Jacob Peter Hooge (1889 – 1959) and Elizabeth Driediger (1899 – 1986), the oldest of six children. Peter was just a toddler when they fled their homeland for Canada, spending the first thirteen years in Saskatchewan before moving to British Columbia in 1936 and settling in the Langley (Coglan area). Peter and Gertie (nee Braun) married in 1947 and raised six children, Dennis, Linda, Janet, Clarence, Gary and Sheila, on a small strawberry farm on Brown Road (now 240^th St). Peter is predeceased by his parents, great grand-daughter Darien Leigh Wheeler, brother Arthur Hooge, sister-in-law Pauline Hooge, sister Mary (& brother-in-law Hank) Hoock, and brother-in-law Henry Janzen. Peter will be lovingly remembered by: Gertie Hooge, Dennis (Margo) Hooge, Linda (Jacob) Sawatzky, Janet Heslop, Clarence Hooge, Gary (Janet) Hooge, Sheila (Jay) Henkel, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; his brother Jacob Hooge, sisters Martha (Albert) Braun and Kathy Janzen; very special friend Bev Trigg plus numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:00 am at Bethel Mennonite Church, 24687 – 56^th Ave, Langley, Interment will be at the Murrayville Cemetery.
