Raymond George Bennett

October 10, 1932 - December 8, 2018

Tribute

It is with great sadness that the family of Ray Bennett announces his sudden passing on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at age 86.

Ray leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 64 years, Eileen; son Ross (June) of Winnipeg; brother Gil (Marylou); and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son Bruce, his parents Charles and Beatrice and siblings Chuck, Wynne, Art and Frank.

Ray was born in McLennan, Alberta but spent the majority of his life in British Columbia.  He always possessed a very strong work ethic and started working at a young age in his family’s restaurants.  After a variety of jobs, he landed in the tire business in sales, eventually working his way to Sales Manager until his retirement.  His naturally outgoing nature and love of kidding around with people brought him not only success on the job, but a wide circle of customers, friends and acquaintances that loved him.

Ray lived every day of his life to its fullest and had more energy than most people half his age.  He was happiest at the end of an axe chopping firewood and leaves behind at least a 2 year supply.  He loved living on the Chilliwack River and working outside on his property and collecting wood from all the fallen trees in a 20km radius!

He was a very proud member of the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department, serving 27 years.  He and his close friend Dave were 2 of the founding members 40 years ago and were awarded Exemplary Service medals for all of their contributions.

Ray was also an avid golfer and enjoyed a few rounds most weeks with his buddies George, Bill, Mike and Bob prior to his passing.

Ray and Eileen loved to travel and enjoyed several cruises and spent many winters on the beaches of Mexico.  They also enjoyed years of traveling with their trailer and weekends spent at their property at The Glen.

He will be sadly missed by his family and circle of friends and neighbors.

A celebration of life will follow in the New Year.

Wiebe and Jeske Funeral Home Staff send our condolences to family and friends.

From: Eileen Brader
Relation: I would like to think I was a good aquaintance.

My condolences on the loss of Ray. I had known Ray for many years and thought him to be the most gentle, caring and sincere man I have ever met with a great sense of humour that continually twinkled in his eyes. I most often saw him at CRV Rate Payers meetings or at Liberal meetings when I looked forward to his candid and intelligent comments. I will certainly miss him and that twinkle of humour forever in his eyes.

From: Bill Reveley
Relation: work related

I am very sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. I am an old work related friend, living in Chilliwack and would like to know when the celebration of life will be held.
