Raymond John Schmidt

July 2, 1955 - October 3, 2024

Tribute

It is with great sadness that the family of Ray Schmidt announce that, after a brief illness, he went to be with his Lord on October 3, 2024.

Raymond John Schmidt was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan on July 2, 1955 to his parents, Elmer and Katherina Schmidt. Raised in Clearbrook, BC, Ray went on to attend Miller Memorial Bible Institute from 1977-79 where he met Laurna Wiebe. The two were married in 1980 and raised two children, Juanita and Byron. Ray loved his family and could often be found with a camera in his hand unless he was otherwise occupied in researching a branch of the family tree.

Ray is survived by his wife Laurna, his daughter Juanita and Tim Braun (Kaleb and Luke), his son Byron and Renée (Zavier, Dominic, Kiefer, Zoe), his sister Ruth (Marty) Hays, and his brother Tim Schmidt.

He was preceded in death by his father Elmer and mother Katherina.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Road, Abbotsford, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holmberg House, the hospice where Ray spent his final days.

My condolences to Laurna, Byron and Juanita and their families. I only got to know Ray in the last couple years of his life. I remember the first time I saw his camera collection and was in awe at the unique cameras he had on display. His wittiness and sincerity were a couple of things I witnessed in my visits with Laurna at their home. Praying for you as you journey through these next few days.
