Tribute

Passed away suddenly August 7, 2010 in Vancouver. Richard (Dick) was born July 16, 1925 in Smith Falls, Ontario. He spent his early youth there and at the family cottage on Otter Lake. He joined the RCAF August 12, 1943 and served to July 5, 1946. Dick reenlisted in 1954 and retired honorably in 1975, Corporal with CVS Medal, War Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration. In the interim years he worked on the Great Lakes for Imperial Oil Shipping He met his future wife Colleen in Superior, Wisconsin. They were married August 3, 1953. While in the RCAF. Dick worked as an aero engineer and airframe tech. He and family were posted in Trenton Ontario, 3rd fighter wing, Zwiebrucken, Germany; Winnipeg, Gimli and finally to Portage La Prairie where he and Colleen were long time residents. They were members of the Herman Prior Centre and the Canadian Legion. On retirement from the forces he worked at the Portage Hospital until 1980. Dick was a loving husband, a good father with a kind and generous nature who always had a friendly hello for friend and strangers. He was predeceased by his wife Colleen (2004) and sisters Yvonne and Patricia. He will be missed by his son Gary (Colleen), grandsons Robert and Brendan (Colette) and brother Terry (Barbara).
