Tribute
A LIFE OF STRENGTH, SPIRIT , LOVE and ADVENTURE
Those who we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved, still missed and very dear. (Alex MacLean)
IN LOVING MEMORY
Wane was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba, one of seven children. From a young age, he was drawn to the outdoors— skating frozen ponds, hunting, trapping, and fishing. Curling became a lifelong passion, and early lessons in self-reliance shaped who he was.
He began his working life in the Point du Bois and Pinawa areas, later moving to Winnipeg before settling in British Columbia in 1971. There, he spent his career as a heavy equipment operator with Southwest Construction and proudly belonged to the Operating Engineers Union for over 50 years.
Though retirement didn’t come easily, Wane grew to enjoy its freedom—traveling, attending concerts, and sharpening his card game.
Wane was the father of five children from a previous relationship in Winnipeg. Though distance and circumstance kept them apart for much of their lives, he
remained proud of their accomplishments and held space in his heart for each of them. He delighted in his role as grandfather and great grandfather, finding joy in watching younger generations grow.
He is lovingly remembered by Iris, his wife of 54 years. Together they shared a life grounded in love and resilience, marked by both joy and sorrow—including the loss of their daughter Tara in 1997. Through it all, Wane remained a steady, caring presence, and both Tara and Hali were fortunate to have had him in their lives.
