Stephen Kulczycky

May 2, 1946 - October 27, 2010

Tribute

Steve passed away with strength and courage after a prolonged illness. Steve was a
compassionate doctor, exceptional pilot, past president of the Abbotsford Flying Club, and a talented writer. His story about the passing of his father-in-law Alec harkens his own passing; “He has found his inner peace experienced through the beauty of flying”. Beloved husband and life-partner of Janet Baillies; son of Maria Kulczycky; brother to Ihor and his wife Marie-Josee Miot; brother-in-law to Heather Wilson, Kate Baillies and Dave Richardson, Jim Baillies and Louise LeBlanc; uncle to Mark and Michele, Eric and Larissa and their daughters Caroline and Olivia, Matt and Erin, and Emily; Godfather to Amanda Burns and Jason Scultety; best friend of Peter Scultety and his wife Irene. He will deeply missed by his family and his wide circle of friends and colleagues, many of whom were members of the Abbotsford Flying Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christine Morrison Hospice, Mission Memorial Hospital, 7324 Hurd Street, Mission BC, V2V 3H5. A celebration of life will be held November 13, 2010 from 2 to 5 pm at the Abbotsford Flying Club, 30540 Approach Drive, Abbotsford.

Georgette and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kulczycky family.
We will keep you in our prayers and would like to commemorate Steve’s love of flying with this excerpt from “High Flight,” written by Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr.:
“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings,
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-spli clouds-and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
Bill
