Thomas John Stokes

April 29, 1927 - February 6, 2019

Tribute

Born April 29, 1927,  entered the presence of the Lord February 6, 2019 at the age of 91.  Tom is survived and greatly missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Phoebe Joyce,  and five children – Judy (Ian) Rutherford, Carol (Harald) Leukefeld, Cher (Rusty)  Merriman, Nancy (Andrei) Suceava, and Mark (Leanne) Stokes.  Also missing their  Grandpa/Papa are 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  He is also  survived  by his much loved sisters, Doreen Smyth and Evelyn (Bob) Anderson  as  well as many treasured nieces and nephews.  We will all remember him as a man of God with a humble, thoughtful, generous and  kind spirit and  a big heart for helping others – family, friends, and strangers alike.  His warm smile and gentle manner touched everyone that met him.  Tom and Joyce were great supporters of their local church and many missions around  the world.  Tom was born in Regina, Sask.,  the thirteenth of fourteen children, and moved with his family to Cherry Avenue, Mission, BC, at the age of eight.  He served in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a proud  veteran.  His working years were spent in logging and trucking in many communities throughout Canada but mainly in BC.  In 1975 Tom started his own company, Tom-Mark Transport Ltd, which is still operated in Abbotsford by his son, Mark.  You are invited to leave a personal letter or note of condolence online at WiebeandJeskefh.com……..Details for   a Celebration of Life service will be  announced at a later date.
