Victor Bennington

August 12, 1922 - May 10, 2016

Tribute

Victor died after a lengthy illness. Victor was born and grew up on a homestead near the village of Molson, Manitoba.  After serving his country during WWII he moved to Winnipeg where he met his wife and life-long partner Angeline (nee Choquette).  They were married on August 1, 1949 and remained together until her death on June 20th, 2008.  Victor obtained a Chartered Accountant designation in 1953 and shortly afterward joined Martin Paper Products, which through various buy-outs and mergers eventually became known as MacMillian Bloedel.  Recognizing his abilities, Victor was rapidly promoted and transferred to Vancouver in 1960.  He held the position of Controller for the Packaging Division for many years.  Despite his heavy work responsibilities, Victor served his community.  He was a member of his church’s school board and later served for many years as the chair of the Church’s finance committee.  Victor also served as a trustee on the Lions Gate Hospital Board from 1984 to 1993 including Chairman. Victor was predeceased by his wife Angeline, son Chad, and sisters Patsy, Helene, Rose and brother William. Victor is survived by his son Vernon (Catherine), daughter Meriza (Maurice Lamothe), daughter-in-law Maureen; grandchildren Monica and Catherine Bennington, Erich and Ryan Cress, and several great-grandchildren; sister Belle McCann; as well as many nieces and nephews. Victor will be remembered for his integrity, his love of hunting, fishing and playing duplicate bridge.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.   Prayers will be held on May 19 at 7:00 pm at Holy Trinity Church, 2725 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on May 20 at 11:00 am, also at Holy Trinity. Online condolences to the family may be made to www.wiebeandjeskefh.com.
