Walter John Clifford McDonald, born March 25, 1943, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, at the age of 83.

Walter lived a life of service and community. He worked with the Department of National Defence, the RCMP in Montreal, the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, and the British Columbia Corps of Commissionaires before retiring. Abbotsford was where he spent his final twenty years.

In his youth, Walter was a talented boxer and remained a lifelong sports fan, especially his years in curling competitive, baseball, and Canadian athletes I want to see Arrest Next week. He also loved dogs, horses, and never missed the Kentucky Derby.  Walter was active in the Royal Canadian Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Abbotsford, Surrey, and New Westminster.

Known for his warmth, humour, and generosity, he had a gift for making others feel valued. He was the kind of man who could walk into a room, crack a perfectly timed joke, and have everyone laughing before the drinks were enjoyed. He was often the first to greet newcomers and the first to quietly help someone who needed a hand, never asking for recognition. His final years were marked by serious health challenges, which he faced with courage and dignity. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and steady presence.

Walter is survived by his former wife, Mariette, and their four children, Joyce, Gordon, Richard, and Audrey. He is also remembered by his brothers, Doug (Joan) and Ken (Beverly), as well as his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his infant brother, Joseph McDonald; his father, John Clifford McDonald; and his mother, Margaret Ann McDonald (née Sewell).

Friends and family are invited to a memorial toast in his honour at the Eagles Hall at 33868 Essendene Ave, Abbotsford on June 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Walter’s memory plant a tree in his memory or donate to the BC SPCA in your area in recognition of his love for animals. His legacy of service, friendship, and Canadian pride will live on in all who knew him.
