Wilfred (Wilf) Loewen

July 25, 1959 - April 21, 2025

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Wilf Loewen at the age of 65, in the ICU at ARH, Abbotsford, BC, with his wife Cristine, children Dylan and Shaelynn and Cassie, siblings and extended family members by his side.

Wilf was born on July 25, 1959 in Filadelfia, Paraguay and together with his parents and siblings, immigrated to Canada in 1967.  He married his sweetheart and love of his life, Cristine, in 1988 and was a devoted husband, amazing dad, and proud Opa of his first grandchild.

Wilf will be remembered by his family as a wonderful nurturer, provider, engaged father and pillar of strength. He was a man of conviction and had an unwavering faith in his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The philosophy he lived by was to act justly, love people and walk humbly. He was generous with his time, money and possessions, ever ready to lend a helping hand. He lived selflessly, loved fiercely, worked hard and lived like an overcomer.

To those he knew, Wilf was a man of compassion and understanding. He was a loyal friend that would give the shirt off his back for others. He refused to pity himself, even in crisis’ and instead, showed concern for the next person.

After Wilf’s dad passed away 17 years ago, Wilf assumed primary responsibility of his mom’s well-being and was a faithful, loving son til the end.

Wilf was a natural leader and businessman who enjoyed his career and interactions with people. He had a genuine interest in others and eagerly lent a hand or listening ear. Wilf had a huge heart for the hurting and actively supported however possible. He was an encourager, motivator, expert problem-solver and could think on his feet to overcome obstacles.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, quadding, biking, snowmobiling and camping. Wilf was a real family man and treasured family camping trips, as well as annual summer vacations with extended family.

At the end of the day, what he cherished the most was his dear wife and kids. He never seemed to run out of energy for them and protected them for all he was worth. Time with Cris, his lifelong hero, along with the kids was his happy place.

He’s left an overwhelming void in our hearts and will lovingly be remembered by his wife Cristine, his son, Dylan with Shaelynn and daughter, Cassidy. He is survived by his mom, Gertrud Loewen, and sisters, Margita Bergen with Jake , Rosie Friesen with Wern, Karoline MacIntyre with Gerry and brother, Frank Loewen. He was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews, and cherished nephew to his aunts and uncles, beloved cousin to many, and lifelong friend to all who knew him.

Wilf is predeceased by his dad, Henry Loewen, and father-in-law, Artur Warkentin.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at King Road Church, 32068 King Road, Abbotsford, BC
