William (Bill) Albert Keyes

April 1, 1947 - May 17, 2025

Tribute

Born April 1, 1947, in Alberni, BC (now Port Alberni), Bill lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. Raised in the Kootenays, he grew up in several towns, graduating high school in Kaslo where he first felt the call to ministry.

After attending various Bible schools, he met his first wife, Joyce Richter, at WesternPentecostal Bible College. They married in 1970 and had three sons. The family lived inCalgary, Surrey, and Williams Lake, where Bill became an associate pastor and ran an insurance agency. He also served as president of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (1979–1985).

In 1987, the family moved to Hazelton, BC, where he pastored and ran a group home, continuing his passion for counselling. Later, in Aldergrove, he led Hillside Community Church until his retirement in 2010. After Joyce’s passing in 2003, he was blessed to remarry Anna in 2004, blending their families.

Together, they served in international missions—supporting Sudanese refugees in Egypt, delivering Christmas boxes in Costa Rica, counselling in Guatemala, and volunteering in local ministries such as Refresh Mobile Showers, thrift stores, and seniors’ care. They shared a love for travel, faith, and community service.

In 2018, he survived a serious health crisis, a testament to his resilience and faith, gaining seven more cherished years with loved ones. Known for his humility, generosity, and devotion to God, he was a steadfast spiritual leader and beloved family man.

He is survived by his wife Anna, brother Ray (Martha), sons Bill, Doug, Brad (Ligia), daughters Christina and Tammi (Troy), 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce, siblings Clayton, Everett, and Sandra.

Hi. I had the privilege to know Mr. Keyes in 2015, when I started volunteering at Hope for Children Thrift Store in Langley, BC.

What I remember of him as an employer is his calmness, his kindness, his smile and his compassion for others.

Mr. Keyes and his wife Anna had been kind to me as I was fleeing violence from Vancouver.

Funny fact: on the very 1st day of my volunteering work there, as I wasn’t wearing a tag like the other volunteers, some people made a wrong assumption that I was supposedly impersonating a staff member.

Both Mr. Keyes and his wife Anna came to me and reassured me that I was entitled to work there and had a welcoming attitude towards me.

Despite all the bickering and the gossips in the back store, Mr. Keyes was always supporting me.

His patience and his encouragement were very appreciated.

I was considering him as a father’s figure.

I was saddened to hear about his passing.

I hope his family is doing well despite this tragic loss.

I will pray Jesus Christ to keep an eye on him, making sure that he will continue his good work while he is in Heaven.
