Aaldert (Alec) Pastoor
April 1, 1952 - November 27, 2017
Tribute
Alec was born and raised in Elim, in the province of Drenthe, the Netherlands on April 1st, 1929. In 1952, at the age of 23, Alec, along with his parents and many of his siblings, immigrated to Canada, settling in Ladner, BC. Prior to leaving the Netherlands, Alec struck up a courtship with Anne Kleine; she followed her true love to Canada one year later. Alec and Anne were married on July 22, 1954. Over the years their family grew and they were blessed with 7 children.
Alec began his working career in Canada as a farmhand, eventually Alec and Anne had their own farm. After many years of farming Alec started truck driving for Westcoast Reduction, a career which he enjoyed immensely for many years. Due to health complications Alec retired in 1989, a difficult decision for him, as he was a man whose work ethic was boundless.
Alec was a devoted and faithful servant in his church. He spent many years as church elder and especially enjoyed his time spent as youth elder.
During their retirement years Alec and Anne enjoyed travelling; taking many road trips, as well as numerous trips to the Netherlands.
Alec was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2012. He remained at home until 2 days before his passing; his wonderful sense of humour and love for the Lord was with him until the end.
Alec passed away on Monday November 27th, safe in the arms of Jesus, and surrounded by many loving family members. He was pre-deceased by his oldest son Ron (Jody) in 2016. He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 63 years, his children: John (Lori), Hilda (Howie), Sandy (John), Wendy (John), Mona, Che. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and surviving siblings and extended family members in both Canada and the Netherlands
A Celebration of Life will be held at Living Hope Christian Reformed Church (3431 Old Clayburn Rd, Abbotsford) on Tuesday December 5th at l:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully asks that if so desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
