David was the first born son to Nicholas and Helena Friesen. David passed away suddenly with a brain bleed. He died peacefully in the hospital at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg Manitoba.

David started his career as a farmer, but soon continued on in schooling to become a pastor, and served his Lord and Saviour faithfully the rest of his life. He also spent a few years teaching.
He was well loved by friends and family, as well as his parishioners.
David leaves behind his second wife Gretchen Margaret Enns of 12 years, his daughter, Darlene (husband, Dan, and kids and grandkids); his daughter, Laurel (and kids); his son, Jonathon (and kids) as well as his stepchildren, Lenora (and David) Leo and kids, Rodney (and Lisa) Gaylene (and Dale), Theo (and Katherine) along with their kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He also leaves behind his siblings and their remaining spouses – sister in law Marie, Margaret Janzen, Don Melvin, Leonard Friesen, John and Mary Friesen and sister-In-Law Shirley Friesen. David is predeceased by his wife, Doris, nee Hamm, and his son-in-law, Glen, Laurel’s husband. From: Bill Thiessen
Relation: Friend

I was quite taken aback by Dave’s departure. He was a good, trustworthy friend, with whom I had much in common. He and Doris participated in one of the MCC BC Study Tours which I facilitated. They were devoted! I convey my sincere condolences. Bill Thiessen.

From: Garry and Diane Janzen
Relation: Ministry colleague and friend.

This is an expression of our love for Dave and the family. Dave spoke into my ministry life two significant times. We had just come back from Africa and we were itinerating in the Osler Mennonite Church in the fall of 1988, and Dave asked what was next for us. I said we were looking toward pastoral ministry. He suggested the Zoar Mennonite Church in Langham was looking, set up a contact with Emery Ens, and I was there as pastor for almost 10 years. Then in the spring of 2007, when MCBC was searching for an Executive Minister, Dave suggested to me that I would be a good candidate. Long story short, I was called and served in this position for 15 years. Dave also did some very significant ministry as a volunteer with the MCBC Church Ministries Committee, putting together a Pastor/Congregation Covenant that is still used to this day. I had full intentions of coming to the Celebration of Life, but with the heavy snowfall here in Ladner, I will not be venturing out. Blessings and Peace.
