Gerrit (Gary) (Gary) de Vries

August 14, 1958 - February 10, 2019

Tribute

Gary was born in the small town of Cornwall, Ontario on Aug 14, 1958. Gary was the youngest of 6 children and grew up with his siblings Luke, Hennie, Tryne, Harry, and Albert. Gary moved to BC in 1981 to pursue his career in printing. Gary was a dedicated employee and worked for West Key Graphics for 38 years. Gary found Anita within 2 months of coming to BC and there began their beautiful love story. Within 5 months, he popped the question and they were married on May 28, 1983.

Gary and Anita jumped right in to start a family. Danai arrived on May 13, 1985 and Gary was overjoyed by his beautiful baby girl. Quentin came in 1987, Cole in 1988, and their baby girl Keshia in 1991. Gary was blessed with a large and loving family. He partnered with Anita and raised his children with patience, discipline, and humility. He often took them on long family trips camping to see the natural beauty of Canada. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to have a relationship with Jesus, read the bible, and live a generous, faith filled life. Gary stepped up and became a strong 2nd father to his sons and daughter in law.

Gary became a Poppy in May 2016. He was thrilled and excited to begin the grandparent fun. He enjoyed Dutch licorice and hooked Ethan to his favorite candy. In Gary’s last week, the family welcomed little Finnley. Because of Finnley, Gary, Anita, and the kids spent time together every day in his last week. The kids feel so blessed to have this additional, special time with their Dad.

Gary touched the lives of many and leaves in his wake a beautiful legacy and example of a man who truly loved the Lord. Gary was kind, happy go lucky, and easy going with a positive word of encouragement for all in his path. He was devoted to his best friend and wife of 35 years, Anita.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, his mother in law Kathy, and his nephews Nathan and Albert.

Gary leaves behind his wife of 35 years Anita, his children Danai (Tiberu), Quentin, Cole (Lexi), Keshia (Nate), cherished grandchildren Ethan and Finnley, his father in law Pieter, brother in law Gerald, nieces and nephews, church family, and many treasured friends. Gary was joyfully anticipating the arrival of his next grandson due this April.

We are assured that Gary is safe in the loving arms of his Saviour and until we meet again, he will be profoundly missed.
