Helen Lutz (Mantei)

April 20, 1945 - March 12, 2024

Tribute

Helen Lutz (nee Mantei), 78, of Chilliwack, BC, peacefully went to be with her Lord &
Saviour on March 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 20, 1945, in
Vernon, BC, to Ludwig (“Louie”) and Mathilde (“Tilly”; nee Krentz) Mantei, the third of four
siblings (Joyce, Betty, & Robert). Helen was truly a special and spirited lady who loved
others openly and always took an interest in everyone she met. Her pride and joy were her
family and her grandchildren. She loved the warmth of the sun, the beach, travelling,
visiting friends & family, cooking fabulous family meals, and gardening.

Helen was the devoted wife of George Lutz for 59 years, and cherished mother of Greg and
Matthew, whom she took great joy in nurturing and guiding through life’s journey. Helen
treasured her role as an adored “Grammi” to her four grandchildren (Grayson, Piper,
William, and Oliver) and she found immense happiness in spending time with them,
hosting overnight playdates, sharing stories and wisdom, and watching them grow. Helen
has left behind several nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, as well as many
cousins and friends.

Helen grew up in a close-knit, loving, family and graduated from Aldergrove High School
(now Aldergrove Community Secondary School) in 1963. Helen and George began dating in
1963 when Helen was finally wooed by George’s passionate pursuit that begin a year
earlier. On January 16, 1965, Helen married her beloved husband, George, and settled in
Chilliwack, BC as their permanent home. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith,
community, and commitment to each other and their family.

Helen Lutz was a faithful Christian who lived her life with grace and compassion, known for
her unwavering devotion to her family and her deep-rooted faith in God. Her kindness,
warmth, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. In addition to her role as a
dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Helen was an active member of Chilliwack
Alliance Church, where she found strength and inspiration in her Christian faith. She will be
remembered for her selflessness, generosity, and commitment to serving others.

It always seemed like Helen/”Grammi” could do anything: baking, cooking, gardening,
managing rental properties, career woman, organizing vacations for George and herself
and/or her children, and staying current with technology.

Helen Lutz is survived by her loving husband, George Lutz; her children, Greg Lutz (Karyn)
of Surrey, BC; and Matthew Lutz (Meghan) of Chilliwack, BC; her grandchildren, Grayson,
Piper, (son & daughter of Greg & Karyn), and William and Oliver (sons of Matthew &
Meghan); and her siblings, Joyce Ott (Ewald, d.2022) and Robert Mantei (Randi). She was
preceded in passing by her parents, Ludwig & Mathilde Mantei, and her sister Betty
Nywening (Ralph).
