John Bornn

September 16, 1934 - November 22, 2023

Tribute

John Bornn was born on September 16, 1934 to Peter & Anna Born in Coaldale, AB. He became the
brother to Anna, Sarah, Peter, Isaac & Helena.   Maria, Nellie & Jacob were born after him for a total of 9
children. The Born family moved to a farm approximately 4 miles from Vauxhall, AB in 1938 (4 years
old). The family was poor and John learned to work hard at a young age. In 1948, at 14 years, John lost
his sister Sarah to cancer. As he shovelled the dirt on her grave, he decided to make a commitment to
Jesus.
John was good at numbers, but the school experience was anything but pleasant and so he decided
to quit after finishing Grade 8. In 1951-53, John did 2 winters at MBI Bible School in Didsbury.
John met Doris Wall at the Vauxhall MB Church. In the spring of 1956 (Easter), John proposed. They
were married on July 28, 1956 (67 years). John was baptized on confession of his faith in Jesus just after
their summer wedding in 1956. One of his favourite verses was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world,
that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John & Doris had three children, Carey, Brenda & Penny. His children loved playing with their dad.
John’s youngest sister-in-law Marie who spent a lot of her early childhood years at her sister Doris’
home, also loved his teasing!
Over the 40+ years John & Doris lived together in S.C., John drove truck, was a salesman, Realtor,
built 6 of his own homes and owned/operated many businesses. He even tried his hand at farming.
John was always looking for a new opportunity wherever he went. Though many ideas did not come to
fruition, many ventures did!
John loved the lake and owned boats from the early 1960’s until about 5 years ago. John’s love for
water skiing & fishing was instilled into his children and many of his grandchildren and now even great
grandchildren.
John, Doris & their family enjoyed many holidays together, giving their children a plane trip to Hawaii
in 1972 & then multiple trips following. A summer highlight was always the family vacation at Shuswap,
which became a 25+year tradition.
John & Doris moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1997, which gave them an opportunity to be closer to two
of their children and their families. John continued in some sales, renovated a house, and drove cars for
vehicle transfers. John always loved cars and driving. The last years John & Doris enjoyed regular coffee
times with friends, camping and spending as much time with their family (including extended family) as
possible.
John always loved kids. His children, grandchildren & great grandchildren brought him great joy! He
loved playing games and it seemed like he won most of the time too! He was often seen at his
grandchildren’s sports events, showing his support and enjoying the games.
John was so proud & so much in love with Doris. He mentioned this to his kids many times. We often
saw him give her a hug or kiss. Doris was truly his partner in all things, often working with him in his
business ventures.
John struggled with his health significantly since 2021. When John was asked if He was ready to meet
the Lord, he always answered confidently. John’s struggle is done! He is experiencing his eternal life
now!

John is survived by his wife Doris, children Carey, Brenda & Herb Foth, Penny & Bradley Dyck, 10
grandchildren plus their spouses and 16 great grandchildren, along with a sister Nellie & Gerhardt
Reimer, in laws Mary Born, Betty Born, Annette Born, Marie Brooks, John & Tina Wall, Lucille Friesen,
Henry Wieler.
John’s family will miss his jokes, the twinkle in his eye, the grin on his face, and so much more!
