Tribute
Jack Palmer of Abbotsford, BC passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 just shy of his 93rd birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth in April 2005 after 47 years of marriage, Jack is survived by his son Gregory (Jenny), daughter Denise (Jeff) and younger brother Alan (Kay), as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jack lived most of his boyhood in St. Thomas, Ontario, served in the Canadian Merchant Navy during WWII, and married and raised his family on BC’s west coast. He enjoyed varied and interesting work, including as a firefighter along the north coast, a stationary engineer in Vancouver-area hospitals and an energy efficiency coordinator for the Correctional Service of Canada. Jack enjoyed free time wielding the sticks as a drummer in several small pipe bands, joining in song with the Abbotsford Male Chorus and volunteering long hours with the Abbotsford Citizens’ Patrol – even late into his 80s. He will be remembered and missed as a man of many passions, boundless energy and great generosity.
Thank you to the staff of Hallmark on the Lake and The Mayfair and to Jack’s friends in the community who helped him so much in the final stages of his life’s journey.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
