REMEMBERING DAD

Dad packed a lot of living into his 93 years.  He was a hard worker and experienced a variety of jobs throughout the decades. At 16, he started working at Seales’ General Store in Morin Heights, Quebec, a small village in the Laurentian Mountains.  In the sixties, as a Sun Life Insurance agent, he often travelled to headquarters in Montreal always remembering to bring home the much loved Laura Secord lollipops. He was proud to serve his customers as the butcher and owner of Keith’s Meat Market and in the seventies he took on the role of maintenance supervisor @ Mont Saint Sauveur Ski Resort.

In 1985, Mum and Dad packed up the green van and made the big move to BC to be closer to their grandchildren.  In Abbotsford, they acted as the Managers of Allwood Mobile Home Park until their retirement. Dad always found time to volunteer whether at Morin Heights or Mt. Lehman United Churches or as the Mustangs’ hockey coach or as a volunteer firefighter in his younger days.  As well, he always had lots of woodworking or renovation projects on the go. At 93, he still served on their Strata Council at Bourquin Court.

Through all of it (almost 70 years since their marriage on September 15, 1951), Mum has been his faithful sidekick, caregiver and #1 partner, supporter and chef. Dad enjoyed Mum’s cooking (her homemade biscuits and my turkey rice soup were favourites) and he always looked forward to knowing what the next meal would be! They enjoyed their chats reminiscing about old times and their nightly word search face-offs.

Family was everything to Dad and he was a loving and caring father to Ed and I, grandfather to Tyler and Travis and great grandfather to Theo and Reese. He was a kind, sincere, fun-loving and generous human being with a “marshmallow heart”. He lived life to the fullest enjoying family and so many friends. The road trips were many: from the cross country camping trips, to the Sunday afternoon adventures, to the annual Old Orchard Beach vacations, to the summer day trips to DinoTown with the grandkids, to the fishing weekends at Pender Harbour.

He was one of the great ones and he will be missed and forever loved.

Keith was always so kind and thoughtful. I appreciated how he asked about how are girls were doing. He was a good listener and showed interest in others. His warm smile and bright eyes showed such sincerity. Wishing him peace and his family to know how much he was loved. Thinking of you all.

From: Doug, Hélène and family

From: April O'Neil
Relation: Mount Lehman United Church

I am so very pleased I was able to know Keith (and Thelma) for so many years in our church. When I first joined, Keith was our Maintenance Man and I saw him do such good work. He was always kind and smiling, so very approachable. I always felt comfortable around him and had so much respect for him. Keith and Thelma together were a model couple that all marriages should pattern after. Even now as Thelma bravely carries on without him, the good memories will have to see us all through, along with the knowledge that Keith is now at peace with our Lord.
