Stanley Melvin Olson

Date of Death: May 24, 2018

Tribute

It is with sadness that the family of Stan Olson announces his death from cancer on May 24 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Born in Saskatchewan, he came as a child to BC and lived most of his life in the Lower Mainland.  He attended Briercrest and the University of Saskatchewan, and worked at Trinity Western University for 32 years as a librarian. After retiring, Stan was very involved in creation care as well as seeking understanding and reconciliation with Indigenous neighbours.

Survived by his wife of 38 years, Marijke, his children, Karen (Luke) and Dave, his brother Ken (Marilyn) and by other family members in Canada, the US, and Australia.

A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Abbotsford, at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Western University or A Rocha Canada.

I sang in a quartet with Stan. Great guy. Sorry. Such a loss! May he rejoice in the presence of our Lord.

From: William Badke
Relation: Friend and colleague

Having known Stan for 46 years, his going is a deep loss. I remember him as a man of constant energy and desire to make a difference. He was a dominant influence in my becoming a librarian, and my first library position was as his student worker. My deep condolences to the family as we live within the blessed hope.

We were very sorry to hear (somewhat belatedly) of Stan’s passing. May God grant you peace that goes far beyond human understanding. Shakespeare was wrong. The good men do lives after them. Marijke, you and Stan have been a great blessing to us. May God reward you. May God bless and keep you all.
